HARD ON CORROSION AND GENTLE ON THE MACHINE
The quality of steel shot is judged essentially by three criteria: Price, high cleaning performance and low consumption. A further point will be realized later: reduced wear on the parts of the blasting machine which are in contact with the blasting media like wheel blades, impellers and lining. High carbon steel shot breaks into small sharp edged angular fragments during operation. These sharp edged fragments will grind the wear parts of the blasting machines. Our low carbon steel shot FERROSAD is different. The steel balls will not break and remain round because of the crack free bainitic microstructure. The balls harden by cold working and are subject to abrasive wear. Most of the balls remain round getting smaller and smaller until they are taken out by the air separator. This wear behavior develops an ideal operating mix with nominal, medium and fine grain sizes. An optimum blasting result will occur together with a low rate of wear of the blasting machine.
